SM Cares plastic waste collection now in Pampan

SM City Telabastagan Community Participants

SM Cares, the corporate social responsibility arm of SM Supermalls, recently added SM Telabastagan and SM Pampanga to the growing list of SM malls that are part of its plastic waste collection program.

Customers in neighboring communities can now drop off their clean, dry plastic waste at Parking D, near the SM store entrance at SM Telabastagan, or near the steel parking lot at SM Pampanga, daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Plastic materials such as PET bottles, grocery bags, e-commerce pouches, food containers, tableware, plastic utensils, etc. are accepted, with the exception of PVC pipes.

Launched in 2021 in partnership with Plastic Credit Exchange (PCEx), the SM Cares Plastic Waste Collection Program promotes responsible and proper disposal of plastic waste by making plastic waste collection points accessible to everyone. With this, SM is continuously expanding its plastic waste collection to more SM malls nationwide.

Since its launch, the program has so far collected 14,436.25 kg of plastics, which is equivalent to 23,416.641 kg of carbon dioxide (CO2). This in turn equates to: 93,543.12 km traveled by an average passenger vehicle; 2,848,462 smartphones charged; 8.1 tonnes of waste recycled; 1.2 garbage trucks of recycled waste; 1,1014 bin bags of recycled waste; 888 incandescent lamps switched to LEDs; or 387 tree seedlings grown for 10 years.
