15 kg of plastic waste removed from cow’s stomach
Berhampur, Apr 09 (PTI) Plastic waste weighing around 15kg was removed from the stomach of a stray cow by veterinarians at a public facility in Ganjam district of Odisha, officials said on Saturday.
A team of veterinary doctors, led by district veterinary surgeon Dr Kiran Kumar Bisoyi, operated on the six-year-old cow for about three hours after her rescue, they said.
Polythene bags, wrappers and other plastic waste were removed from the cow’s stomach, Dr Bisoyi said.
The sick cow was rescued from Vidya Nagar near Courtpeta region four days ago after an animal rights activist reported her condition to authorities, he said.
The cow was in critical condition when she was taken to hospital, he said, adding that clinical examination revealed an accumulation of plastic waste in her stomach.
Stray cattle, which survive on remains thrown into polythene bags, end up with plastic in their stomachs, the doctor said.
After the plastics were removed from her stomach, the cow’s condition is now stable, he said. PTI CORR AAM SOM SOM
